Rodmell’s first Flower Festival will be held on September 23rd and 24th.
This year is the year of the Old Testament, so each flower arrangement will relate to one of the marvellous stories which abound in this book, the Creation, Moses in the Bullrushes, David and Goliath, Joseph’s Technicolour Dream Coat, The Queen of Sheba and so on.
Also, an exhibition of botanical paintings by Vicky Mappin’s classes will be displayed around the church and during the afternoons there will be organ recitals.
Teas, coffees and cakes will be sold from the bell tower which can be eaten outside or in the church.
The children of the village have been invited to make arrangements in jam jars as part of ” God’s Creation” which will be on display in the porch.
The church is trying to raise funds to repair the outer walls of the bell tower and provide new heaters in the church. We have an estimate of nearly £100,000 for the bell tower alone: flint work is very expensive. The heaters are really needed before winter sets in.
Suggested donations of £5.00 will be collected on the days and the church will be open from 1pm-5pm. We are hoping visitors will be very generous.
Parking will be on the Croft, subject to Mr. Wettern’s permission.
As there are no facilities in the church, lavatories will be available at the village hall.
